Reiki & Rest
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy.
Reiki is a type of energy healing. Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical or emotional injury or trauma. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness or pain and discomfort.
Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. By improving the flow of energy around and within the body, Reiki can enable relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.
During a session, you will sit in a comfortable chair or lie down, fully clothed. You will be contected via video call, ensure the Reiki Master can see and communicate with you throughout the session. The practitioner will then transmit the energy through their hands, channeling it to go where it is needed most for you. This energy exchange is done only with your consent. As Reiki is an energetic healing, it can cross time and space to help you wherever you are.
Yoga Nidra, also called Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) is similar to meditation
With yoga nidra (NSDR), you are lying down and the goal is to move into a deep state of conscious awareness sleep, which is a deeper state of relaxation with awareness. This state involves shifting from consciousness while awake to dreaming and then to not-dreaming while remaining awake — going past the unconscious to the conscious, its practice feels similar to guided meditation.
With most forms of meditation, on the other hand, you’re sitting and in a waking state of consciousness while focusing the mind and allowing thoughts to come and go. Meditation makes it possible for us to get to the theta state — the state we go through on our way to get to the delta state, which is the place of the deepest sleep cycle. The delta state is a deep healing state. That’s where we’re trying to get through yoga nidra (NSDR). In this state, the body and mind rest while the consciousness mind remains awake.
6 incredible benefits of Reiki & Rest:
Relaxes and Releases Tension From The Body & Mind
What many people love the most about Reiki & Rest is that it allows them to simply “be”. It is an experience of pure relaxation where the receiver can clear their heads and release the tension and stress of their day. It has an incredibly calming effect on the sympathetic nervous system, shifting you from the ‘fight-or-flight' mode to the relaxation response. This lowers elevated cortisol levels and promotes emotional self-regulation. As a result, we feel more in control of our thoughts and less reactive to the many stressors we encounter in daily life.
Breaks Down Energy Blocks and Balances The Mind, Body, and Spirit
Regular Reiki & Rest treatment promotes the consistent and unlocked flow of energy throughout the body. This allows people to feel less stress, enhances learning and memory, promotes mental clarity, and physical healing/ less physical pain. When energy passageways are blocked, positive energy cannot flow to certain parts of the body, which results in mood swings, fear, anger, pain, and more. Reiki can help keep these passages clear. Furthermore, NSDR brings you into a theta state, which matches the frequency that the third eye and crown chakras operate on. Yogic sleep can stimulate and align all seven chakras but is particularly beneficial for awakening the upper chakras. Usually, the third eye and crown chakra are the most challenging energy centers to stimulate.
Supports Cognitive Function
Reiki & Rest techniques are used to remind our bodies how to go back into the “repair” or “self-healing” state of rest and digest. By triggering this state, our bodies begin to cleanse themselves of useless energies. It also allows the body to protect itself from exhaustion and burnout. Reiki & Rest trains your brain to accept mental relaxation, which helps to prevent cognitive decline as you age. The conscious relaxation that yogic sleep promotes creates space in your mind removing all the repetitive thoughts that create that familiar feeling of brain fog. With improved mental clarity, you'll experience greater concentration and memory.
Aids in Better Sleep
Yoga nidra induces a sleep-like state, stimulating the brain waves that occur during deep sleep. This makes nidra an excellent exercise for people experiencing sleep disorders and/or disturbances. You can generally expect to feel extremely relaxed during and after a Reiki & Rest session. This kind of relaxation helps our bodies to sleep better, to heal better, and to think more clearly. It is not uncommon for people to fall asleep entirely during a Reiki & Rest Session. 45 minutes of NSDR has similar impacts on the brain and nervous system as approximately 3 hours of sleep. It is not a replacement for good quality sleep, however it can help bridge the gap in times when people are unable to get all the sleep they need. (New parents, periods of illness, jet lag, shift work etc).
Empowers Personal Growth and Emotional Cleansing
Reiki & Rest addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—not just the physical being. This means that the positive energy transfer is extremely helpful in elevating the receiver’s mood and general attitude towards life. The energy transfer through Reiki may make people feel peaceful, relaxed, and lighter which allows them to be in touch with their inner selves and reflect clearly on their lives. The healing that starts from within will reflect on their decisions and perspective on the outside. Yoga Nidra helps to facilitate personal growth by allowing you to gain a deeper awareness of yourself. This occurs through the Sankalpa setting stage, where you reflect and set a specific intention for yourself. It also helps you connect more to the present moment, maintaining awareness of your body and the world around you.
Helps to reduce symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain
The nervous system's emotional relaxation response also helps reduce anxiety and emotional tension related to post-traumatic stress disorder. Reiki can help to reduce feelings of anxiety and promote a sense of calm, which can make it easier to manage symptoms. Because yoga nidra releases bodily stress and tension, many people with chronic pain notice their symptoms lessen after regular yoga nidra practice. As you enter a state of deep relaxation, you can fully relax your physical body, which breaks up energetic blockages, lowers inflammation, and stimulates the immune system. Reiki & Rest Sessions may help decrease pain perception by healing the emotional aspect of pain. Reiki is meant to resolve emotional distress by allowing healing energy to flow freely throughout the body, which often results in relaxation and reduced pain and tension throughout the body.

*Disclaimer *
Neither Reiki nor Yoga Nidra have been found to have any adverse effects.
Because there is nothing about a Reiki & Rest session that can interfere with conventional medical care, Reiki & NSDR have no known contraindications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention.
The recipient is not required to ingest any substances, so there are no concerns about mixing substances (such as herbs) and prescription medications.
Reiki & Rest will not override the action of medical interventions, but rather support the patient while he or she goes through them, restoring balance in body, mind, and spirit to the degree possible. Patients who feel well even when fighting chronic illness are more likely to complete their medical treatment and be active partners in their health care.
Remember that it is up to you to be responsible for your own medical care and seek appropriate help. Do not go to your Reiki Master for a diagnosis (unless he or she is also your healthcare provider) and do not avoid recommended medical tests or treatment.
